Apistogramma Salpinction

Apistogramma Salpinction

Family: Cichlidae

Distribution: Apistogramma Salpinction is a new species, discovered in 2005, that is found in Brazil, South America

PH: 6 – 6.5

Temperature: 24°C – 28°C (75°F – 82°F)

Hardness: 2 – 5 dH

Description: This species of Apistogramma differs in its colour pattern. Darker abdominal stripes and a lateral band, along with lighter interspaces on the caudal peduncle, give the Apistogramma Salpinction an individual appearance.  Females differ to males in that their anterior half of lateral side of pelvic fin is black, along with no blotch on their chest.  The Apistogramma Salpinction has a maximum length of 3.4 cm (males).

Diet: It is best to keep a quality flake or smallish pellets as its staple diet.  Treats such as blood worm, brine shrimp and daphnia can be used as treats to keep this species interested in food.

Breeding: This species, while little is known about it, presumably spawns in typical Apisto fashion.

Comments: You could house this species in a 20 gallon tank.  Provide plenty of spawning sites and hiding places, particularly if you are keeping Apistogramma Salpinction in a tank with other species.
