Distribution: Apistogramma Rubrolineata is distributed throughout the deep to middle waters of South America, particularly the Rio Manuripi in Bolivia.

Description: This species has a very distinctive colour pattern that distinguishes it from other apistos. The Apistogramma Rubrolineata’s horizontal stripes and colourful characteristics – seven dark red lines and an arc where the postorbital stripe and mid-lateral band meet – give it a unique appearance. The Apistogramma Rubrolineata has a total of 15 – 16 dorsal spines, between 7 – 8 dorsal soft rays, three anal spines and 6 – 7 anal soft rays. This particular dwarf cichlid was only discovered in 2001 and described in 2002; it is a relative newcomer to the Apistogramma family.
Diet: This species will accept a quality flake or fish pellets as its staple diet. You should feed this species live food – blood worms, brine shrimp – as a supplementary treat.
Breeding: The Apistogramma Rubrolineata spawns its eggs much like any other Apisto does. Upon ripening for spawn the female will lose its bright yellow colour for a duller, yellow colouration, before producing a bunch of bright red eggs. The female Apistogramma Rubrolineata likes to spawn in caves so it is recommended you create a cave-like environment for which it can retreat to.
Comments: These fish are great spawners and have a unique colour that would go well in any home aquarium. Apistogramma Rubrolineata is a species suitable for beginners to the hobby.

Apistogramma can be great community fish and live happily with most Tetra species (particularly the Neon Tetra and Black Tetra). They are also great tank mates with Discus, Corydoras Catfish (particularly Corydoras Sterbai and Corydoras aeneus) Angelfish, Clown loach, the common Guppy and Platy and most Gourami (such as the Blue Gourami and Dwarf Gourami like the Honey Gourami) Also can live happily with most Danio (particularly the Zebra Danio and Pearl Danio) and also many Killifish make great tank mates.
