Distribution: Aulonocara trematocephalum has been recorded in Lake Malawi, Africa. The exact location of this species is as yet unknown.

Description: Aulonocara trematocephalum, native to Lake Malawi, reach a maximum length of 9 cm. Not a great deal is known about this Peacock cichlid when it comes to keeping it in aquariums.
Diet: Aulonocara trematocephalum are presumed to feed on soft invertebrates in nature. Not a great deal of information is available on its diet in an aquarium environment, but it could presumably be fed cichlid foods, vegetable matter and live meats.
Breeding: There is not much information available on this mouthbrooding Malawian cichlid.
Comments: This is a rare species with a limited distribution. If you were lucky enough to grab a hold of one you might consider tanking it in an aquarium at least 100 cm in length. This species is best left to experienced hobbyists.

Recommended Compatible Species: Again, not a great deal is known about this species, but it should be compatible with other Lake Malawian cichlids of a similar size and peaceful temperament.
