Aulonocara brevirostre

Distribution: The Aulonocara brevirostre is a species of dwarf cichlid distributed in the southern part of Lake Malawi.

PH: To mirror the conditions of Lake Malawi, keep pH levels around the 8.0 – 8.5 mark.

Temperature: 26-29°C (79-84°F)

Hardness: Most Aulonocaras suit a hardness of 10 – 18 dH

Description: Male Aulonocara brevirostre cichlids usually grow up to 8 cm in length.

Diet: A healthy mix of prepared cichlid foods, vegetable matter and live meats will suit this species’ diet.

Breeding: There is not a lot of information available on this species’ breeding habits.

Comments: Given the lack of available information, this species is best left to experienced hobbyists.

Recommended Compatible Species: Similarly sized fish of a peaceful temperament can be housed with Aulonocara cichlids.  Be mindful that keeping different species of Aulonocara in the one tank can lead to interbreeding.
